CUSTOMIZE YOUR DEGREE
One of the great things about having so many electives in Kinesiology is that you can customize your degree by adding a minor, specialization, or option. These are available both within, and outside of, Kinesiology (i.e., you could pursue a minor in Psychology if you wanted). You won't choose one of these until second year, but it's helpful to know what's available.
Here are the minors and specializations available within Kinesiology. They'll allow you to pursue in-depth study of a specific area you love.
ERGONOMICS AND INJURY PREVENTION MINOR (10 courses)
You'll graduate prepared to assess and prescribe solutions to problems in the workplace that involve issues such as human-machine interaction, employee wellness, circadian rhythm, fatigue, and design of equipment to maximize productivity and minimize the risk of injury.
HUMAN NUTRITION MINOR (10 courses)
You'll examine the effects of diet and food on health and disease in humans. Your studies will include investigations of cellular metabolism and physiological responses to nutrients, the impact of diet on chronic disease risk, and examinations of food choices in populations.
REHABILITATION SCIENCES SPECIALIZATION (8 courses)
This specialization is excellent preparation for post-graduate health professional programs like physiotherapy, chiropractic, occupational therapy and athletic therapy. You must consult the admission requirements for specific professional or graduate schools when choosing courses.
MEDICAL PHYSIOLOGY MINOR (10 courses)
This minor will provide you with elective courses that are excellent preparation for writing the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) and for graduate programs and careers in biomedical sciences and medical physiology research. You must consult the admission requirements for specific medical and graduate schools when choosing courses.
NEUROSCIENCE MINOR (10 courses)
This minor will provide you with a broad examination of the field of Neuroscience. From neurons to nervous systems to cognition and behaviour, get prepared for a career or graduate school research in this field. You must consult the admission requirements for specific professional or graduate schools when choosing courses.
