AGING
As we grow older, the challenges we face are multifaceted. Researchers in the Faculty study everything from the social lives of older adults, to the way they are affected physiologically, to the way they experience chronic conditions such as dementia.
Using biomechanics to keep older adults moving
Arthritis is the number one cause of disability in older adults. About half of those with knee arthritis will see the condition worsen over time. If there are limited resources for joint replacement, exercise programs or other treatments, it is important to know whose condition will stay the course, and how to keep those with worsening arthritis moving.
The growth of gambling in retirement age
Older adults represent the highest proportion of gamblers among the Ontario population. With more than five million Canadians turning 65 this decade, and with online gambling now pervasive across the country, there is a concern that older adults will be negatively affected socially, financially, physically and mentally.

Dementia and decision-making
Up to 95 per cent of people living with dementia are over the age of 65. It is often assumed that because of this condition and their age that people living with dementia are not able to participate in decisions about their health or how they want to live their lives.
