FACILITATE STRENGTHENING AND BROADENING TRAINING
Cybersecurity talent is in high demand. CPI is leveraging its standing as a world leading research institute to incentivize, train, and upskill students and professionals. Our students are provided with an interdisciplinary perspective on cybersecurity and privacy while also studying deep technical and innovative technologies (e.g., Cryptoworks 21). This makes them natural leaders for the cybersecurity and privacy challenges of the world today. This unique education can also be leveraged to augment professionals needing to upskill and understand the next generation of technologies for cybersecurity and privacy.
Students
The mission of CPI is to facilitate excellence in collaborative research in cybersecurity and privacy. In order to support our graduate and undergraduate students and reward their excellence, CPI is pleased to provide the CPI Excellence Graduate Scholarship and the CPI Undergraduate Award programs.

Support for a Masters of Math in Cybersecurity
CPI members are developing courses for the upcoming offering of a Masters of Math in Cybersecurity at the University of Waterloo.
CPI continues to support the development of new degree programs, university courses, and professional upskilling in cybersecurity and privacy
CMD-CT: A Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Cybersecurity Training Project helmed by project lead CPI Associate Director Anindya Sen
- As a joint initiative between three universities and a cybersecurity company, this project proposes a comprehensive, multidisciplinary cybersecurity training initiative that is designed to significantly enhance the scope, extent, and depth of cybersecurity education and training in Canada. This proposal will significantly expand cybersecurity course offerings in degree-based programs across different disciplines, adapt selected courses for workforce training, and acknowledge the need for specialized cybersecurity training for Indigenous communities.
CPI has facilitated a partnership between Professor Diogo Barradas and eSentire using their Atlas XDR Investigator platform.
- The MMath in Cybersecurity course, Digital Forensics and Incident Response, which is in development by Prof. Barradas, has a work integrated learning component for students using the proprietary eSentire platform. The eSentire platform uses multiple sources of signals to correlate events and data across multiple signals, including endpoint logs, network sensors and general log data. The signals are combined together into one system to find strong correlations. UWaterloo students will have access to this cutting-edge tool as they learn to identify and respond to incidents as created through the setup of the course.
Professional Upskilling with WatSPEED
As part of CPI's commitment to its leadership role in cybersecurity and privacy research, CPI is actively engaged in addressing the significant global shortage of skilled cybersecurity and privacy professionals. CPI members will be continually developing and delivering a variety of upskilling opportunities in cutting edge subject matter (e.g., cloud security, secure coding, data science security, and post-quantum readiness, etc.) in conjunction with WatSPEED.
