ODE TO DANA PORTER

As we imagine the library of the future, we're pausing to celebrate the iconic Dana Porter Library building. Throughout this report we’re sharing historical photographs from our archives to highlight its enduring presence at the heart of campus.
The Arts Library building was dedicated to and named after Dana Harris Porter, the first chancellor of the University of Waterloo, in 1967. Porter was a lawyer and politician who served as Ontario Attorney General and Treasurer, among other positions. He served as chancellor for six years and was given an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1966.
In the spring 2023 issue of the University of Waterloo Magazine, an Ode to Dana Porter written by alum Dani Stock (PhD '15) honoured the experience the space evokes for students, staff, faculty and alumni.
